As yesterday was the 45 anniversary of Doctor Who, I thought I should get my act together and finish the fan art I've been working on for two weeks...

Following on from my chibi version of Dalek Thay, I moved on to another member of the Cult of Skaro, Dalek Sec. Of course I couldn't resist drawing my 'super deformed' Sec in a slightly more interesting 'pose' ;)

This is based on the scene towards the end of the series 3 episode Daleks In Manhattan where Dalek Sec's casing opens to reveal the mutant within.

This took about 15 hours work of which 7.5 hours were the line art, 2.5 were the flat colouring and 5 were the airbrushing, making this one of the most time consuming pieces to date.

I'm really pleased with how this turned out, even though I had to work from three different source images of the casing for the top, middle and bottom, each with slightly different camera angle and light source.

And wow is it difficult to colour a solid black object!

That's impressive. I'm still knitting the dalek I promised my nephew for Christmas (while really wanting to knit a new scarf for myself in this cold weather.)

You really make the unreal real. :^) I love the detail you get in a technically *extremely* difficult subject. Plain black is a *pain* even when it's an animal, with textures to catch the light. On a mechanism with straight lines and smooth curves it must be much harder.

Thanks, yes flat black surfaces are very annoying to colour, although at least they're gloss black and not mat black...
